Italian Dogs 
This affectionate and easily trained small to medium curly haired dog originated in the Romagna region in North East Italy. These large white dogs are very strong and active, and were originally used to guard shepherds' flocks. They are traced back to 2000 years ago in the regions of Maremma and Abbruzzo. This ancient breed of dog originates from central Italy and dates back to the Bronze Age. It descends from the European Spitz. It was adored by Italian royalty, and even Michelangelo had one!

Originated from Bologna in around the 1200's, these dogs were popular with the nobility who used to exchange them as gifts, in the time of the Renaissance.
(Italian Pointer) This gun dog is very docile, loyal and makes a good hunting companion. It dates back to 1700's, and descended from Molossus and Egyptian hounds. 
Cane Corso Italiano (Italian Mastiff) Quiet and loyal dog, makes an excellent guard dog as is also very protective. Name comes from Latin 'cohors' which means 'protector' or 'guardian'. learn more....

Mastino Napolitano (Neapolitan Mastiff) This breed existed in Naples and the Campania region as long as 2000 years ago. It was bred for use in war, and for bloody Roman games. It makes an excellent guard dog and is used by Italian police and army.
Piccolo Levriero Italiano (Italian Greyhound) Brought over by the Phoenicians and developed by the Romans. Became popular in 16th century Italy with nobility, and many artists included the breed in paintings. learn more...
